It all started over drinks with friends …. we were chatting about new endeavours and projects and I blurted out “what about opening a record shop?” — Someone said, “Hey, it’d be so cool to have a shop like that in Haliburton.” So an idea was born.
I started doing research on the vinyl industry and sales — while CD sales are larger, they are in a decline while vinyl sales have been growing for the last 6 years and counting. And they are all eclipsed by digital sales and streaming, but market is not the same.
Before I knew it, I bid on an estate auction in Welland and bought my first batch of used records — mixed results with a lot of Mrs Mills and Engelbert Humperdinck — but some good ones nonetheless. Then an ad in the local Haliburton papers got us a few more batches and some great contacts. Too many even — we couldn’t handle any more in our house without a serious re-org to store all the boxes and still keep them browsable.
